Built during the Ming Dynasty, the Lingnan garden architecture covers an area of 22,000 square meters. It is known as one of the four major Lingnan gardens along with Liang Garden in Foshan, Yuyin Mountain Villa in Panyu, and Ke Garden in Dongguan.

The World Heritage Site of Kaiping Watchtowers, scattered across the countryside like ancient Eastern fortresses.

Kaiping is renowned as the ‘hometown of watchtowers in China’, with 1,833 well-preserved structures to this day. Architecturally, they come in various forms such as villa-style, courtyard-style, and church-style. These multi-story tower buildings combine defensive functions, residential purposes, and a blend of Chinese and Western architectural artistry, reflecting the close ties between overseas Kaiping residents and their hometown during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

A detailed itinerary for six days

Day 1: Arrival in Guangzhou and travel to Qingyuan
Based on your flight arrival time, your personal guide will meet you at the airport’s arrival hall, then take a bus to Qingyuan. After checking into the hotel, you’ll have some rest, enjoy dinner at the Flower Town, and then visit the Yellow Dragon Gorge Sky Gate Suspension Bridge for a light show.

Day 2: Qingyuan to Foshan to Shunde
After breakfast, visit Foshan Ancestral Temple, Lingnan Tiandi. The Ancestral Temple houses the Memorial Hall of Wong Fei-hung and Ip Man Hall, where you can experience Foshan’s martial arts culture.

After lunch, take a bus to Shunde, visit the largest archway in Asia—Shunfeng Archway, then tour one of the four famous gardens in Lingnan—Qinghui Garden, stroll along Huagai Road Pedestrian Street, and explore the popular Fisherman’s Wharf.

Day 3: Shunde to Jiangmen to Kaiping
After breakfast, tour the Sanshisan Village Street in Jiangmen, where ancient buildings with cobblestone steps witness historical changes. The area features arcade-style buildings, old streets, Western-style houses, lanterns, guzheng music, traditional Han clothing, and an integration of old street elements.

After lunch, take a bus to Kaiping, which is famous for being a hometown of overseas Chinese. Upon arrival, visit the watchtowers in Zili Village and the ancient town of Chikan.

Kaiping watchtowers are a unique type of Chinese rural architecture that combines defense, residence, and Western architectural art into multi-story tower-like buildings. Their distinctive feature is the fusion of Eastern and Western residential styles, incorporating elements from ancient Greek, Roman, and Islamic architecture among others.

Chikan is built along the Tanjiang River, with rural areas on the south bank and urban areas on the north bank. The town features uniform arcade buildings, giving it a unique blend of Chinese and Western ancient charm, earning it the title of ‘China’s Fifth Famous Ancient Town’.

Take a stroll on the European pedestrian street after dinner.

Day 4: Kaiping to Zhongshan to Shenzhen

Travel through the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Passage to Shenzhen, and tour one of the ‘Top Ten Hakka Ancient Villages’ in Shenzhen, Gan Keng Hakka Town. Originating from the Ming and Qing dynasties, it is a cultural tourism area that integrates Shenzhen’s local Hakka residences, Hakka customs, Hakka architecture, Hakka folk art, Hakka traditional cuisine, and Hakka rural scenery.

In the afternoon, visit Dafen Oil Painting Village, a vibrant art center renowned for its skilled painters and rich collection of oil paintings. Art enthusiasts can witness masterpieces being created and even customize their own personalized works. Next, head to Dapeng Fortress, an ancient city dating back to 1394 during the Ming Dynasty. Finally, explore Dongmen Pedestrian Street, enjoying shopping and leisure time.

Guangzhou Haizhu Tram, this unique line connects Guangzhou Tower with Wanshengwei, known as ‘the most beautiful 7 kilometers in Guangzhou’. The tram starts at Guangzhou Tower Station and ends at Wanshengwei Station.
